Reclaiming hope:
Safer futures for refugee women
escaping gender-based violence
Through in-depth focus groups and interviews with service providers and women with lived experience, we identified key gaps in knowledge, resources, and coordination.
Service providers told us they needed clearer referral pathways, better cultural competency and trauma-informed training, and more accurate, up-to-date information about available services. Women with lived experience told us they often do not know they are experiencing gender-based violence, are unaware of the services available to them in Australia and need information in their own languages. This toolkit aims to bridge those gaps by offering practical tools, cultural safety guidance, and sector-specific best practice recommendations, all grounded in the voices and experiences of refugee women and the professionals who work alongside them.
