RACS lawyer appointed to Administrative Review Tribunal
RACS is proud to announce that Team Lead Senior Solicitor Justin Moyes has been appointed as a member of the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART).
Justin is one of 35 new Members appointed this month, joining other former RACS lawyers, Ben Lumsdaine and Alison Ryan, who were appointed to what was then the Administrative Appeals Tribunal in late 2023. The appointments reflect the calibre and integrity of RACS’s legal team.
Tribunal Members in the Migration & Refugee Division review government decisions in matters such as visa and protection applications. As such, their work directly affects the lives of refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia.
Throughout his time at RACS, Justin was known for his legal expertise, calm approach and unwavering ability to get things done, even in the most challenging circumstances. His professionalism and steady leadership earned him deep respect from colleagues and clients alike.
“What is a huge loss to RACS is a massive win particularly for those appearing at the Tribunal unrepresented who need a considered, nuanced and compassionate Member to give them a real shot at justice,” said RACS Centre Director and Principal Solicitor Sarah Dale.
“We’re immensely proud to see Justin continue his commitment to justice and legal excellence through his new role at the Administrative Review Tribunal.”
Justin’s colleagues at RACS have said:
“He was so generous and patient with his knowledge. He would so often know a really in-depth answer to your question, yet still have the empathy to know what it's like to be a young paralegal or lawyer and to calmly and encouragingly explain it to you.”
“Justin, now Member Moyes, was a pleasure to work for and alongside. He always took the time to explain simple or complex mechanisms of the law with care and grace. RACS’s loss is certainly the Administrative Review Tribunal’s gain.”
While the RACS community will miss Justin’s daily presence and steady guidance, his appointment to the independent ART represents a strengthening of Australia’s justice system.
