Author Shankari Chandran announced as RACS Ambassador
Refugee Advice & Casework Service (RACS) has announced Miles Franklin Award -winning author, Shankari Chandran, as its newest Ambassador.
“With her background in law and the values embedded in her stories of refugees and migrants to Australia, Shankari is a great ambassador for RACS and our mission,” said RACS Centre Director & Principal Solicitor, Sarah Dale.
“The themes of diversity and inclusion in Shankari’s books resonate with readers around the country. We hope that her partnership with us as RACS Neighbourhood Ambassador will inspire deeper and more compassionate conversation about people seeking asylum in Australia,” Ms Dale said.
RACS is a nonprofit providing free, critical legal help to people who have fled persecution to find safety and certainty in Australia. The RACS Neighbourhood is a community of monthly donors who share a vision of justice and dignity for and with refugees.
Ms Chandran said:
“I’m honoured to become a RACS Ambassador. RACS gives a voice to those seeking refuge and inspires us to act with empathy. They demand that important stories are told – and heard. Their work creates a more inclusive and just community, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.”

“We hope to provide Shankari’s readers – and Australians more broadly – with a meaningful ‘next step’ to be part of a better Australia,” Ms Dale said.
Global crises and fluctuating funding policies create a large degree of uncertainty for people seeking asylum. Regular giving ensures a service refugees can rely on, whenever they need urgent legal help.
RACS, in partnership with Belvoir St Theatre and RoseyRavelston Books, will be hosting a special event with the author on Monday 22 September 2025. Tickets for In conversation with Shankari Chandran are available now and all profits will go to RACS, funding life-changing legal help for refugees and people seeking asylum.
