Introducing Jean Kearney

RACS is excited to welcome Jean Kearney to the legal team! Jean returns to RACS as a solicitor and sat down with us for this Q&A.

  1. When did you start at RACS and what is your role?

I started at RACS at the beginning of November 2023, and I am a Solicitor.

  2. How did you come to work in refugee law?

My first experience of refugee law was actually as a PLT with RACS! I really loved the work RACS did and was inspired to carry on in the field. I’m very happy to have the chance to return to RACS now as a Solicitor.

  3. What’s the most challenging part of your role/your career?

I think it is always challenging when people don’t get the outcome you think they should. However, I also think this kind of challenge forces you to learn, and to think critically about our refugee legal system, which, ultimately, is an interesting (if sometimes depressing) challenge.

  4. What are you most excited about at RACS?

I am excited about the work I will be doing and about the chance to work with the lovely RACS staff and volunteers. And of course, I’m excited to be returning to the RACS futsal team!

  5. And lastly, something fun: What is your favourite Christmas carol or NYE party song?

Probably some Italian pop playlist – because my favourite (and possibly only) NYE party was in Rome.
