Migration, pathway to nation building

RACS welcomes the review into the role of permanent migration in nation building. The importance of permanent migration and protection lies in Australia's social responsibility to assist the most vulnerable members of our global community who have no choice but to seek asylum. There are compelling economic, cultural and social reasons as to why permanent migration and protection is important to Australia.

Given our expertise and focus on supporting people seeking asylum, refugees, the stateless and displaced, our submission outlines the following points:

  1. Significance of permanent migration to Australia by refugees

  2. Current failures of the policy and factors that will assist refugees and attract migrants

Political discourse around people seeking asylum and refugees

  3. Dehumanising political discourse around people seeking asylum and refugees

It is RACS position that the way we treat and speak about people seeking asylum and refugees is far from a system which aligns with our international obligations, nor a sense of justice, dignity and respect. To read the full submission, click the button below.
