WORKING AS A STUDENT VOLUNTEER

RACS does not currently require any student volunteers as we are fully staffed with volunteers. However please check back in the future as the situation may change

Overview

At any one time RACS has approximately 8-10 law student volunteers who volunteer at least one day per week for a minimum of 6 months to help with administration, research, reception and other tasks. The services provided by these volunteers are invaluable.

Duties of Volunteers

Volunteers perform a variety of tasks – including country and legal research, assistance in preparation of section 417 and other submissions, delivery of documents to the Refugee Review Tribunal and the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs as well as assisting with office and administrative work

What we require from you

RACS accepts final year Law students and PLT students for volunteer placements at RACS.
(NB - if you are not a law student and feel you can contribute to RACS please contact us also.)

Before working with the Centre, student volunteers agree to:

  • contribute at least one day per week for a six month period,
  • provide adequate notice if they are unable to meet commitments, and
  • accept the terms and conditions of the confidentiality agreement.

What we offer you in return

The Centre offers volunteers;

  • an induction program,
  • the opportunity to participate in any RACS’ training courses in refugee law, and
  • a range of experiences in a community legal service.
Volunteer Code of Ethics
